In this newsletter update, we’ll explore with you what we’ve been up to over the last month, as we hear from some past clients, take a look at the medical tourism industry & more..

Hello & welcome back to another update from The Health Store Turkey.

December was an interesting and eventful month for The Health Store Turkey. We were busy networking and connecting, so let me fill you in on what we got up to! December being around the holiday season means that it can be different to most months we have, but that does not mean it was quiet, we are always doing something new and pushing forward to keep the team excelling here at The Health Store Turkey.

So first of all, we had the absolute pleasure of taking part in the 16th Tourism Trade, International Fair & Congress.. Where we had the opportunity to present The Health Store Turkey at Turkey’s largest tourism expo which is a large-scale event in izmir that brings together the leading experts and professionals of the Turkish tourism industry to help build connections and create opportunities for improving the tourism sector. The event lasted three whole days and it was so rewarding to interact with other hospitals and agencies and share our knowledge and experiences with them

Following this, the team came together to celebrate a wonderfully successful year at The Health Store Turkey, having helped thousands of people to become the best versions of themselves. We shared a dinner in Izmir and prepared ourselves for many adventures to come in 2023.

We would like to thank each and every person who engaged with us, supported us and trusted us to share their journey with them throughout the whole of 2022, without all of your support we would not be able to continue on this wonderful adventure into 2023.

Good wishes & happy new year to you all,

Curing Type 2 Diabetes with weight loss surgery..

Type 2 diabetes is one of the most common medical issues related to obesity, which has led researchers to a key question: Can weight loss programs or bariatric surgery cure Type 2 diabetes?

Well, according to a review of 620 scientific studies involving more than 100,000 patients, the researchers involved concluded that amazingly, bariatric surgery – particularly gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy – actually improved blood glucose levels in nearly all cases and resulted in full remission in 80% of patients.

National Institutes of Health guidelines have recommended weight loss surgery for people with Type 2 diabetes whose BMI is above 35. Weight loss surgeries involve removing part of the stomach, which immediately impacts the way blood glucose is processed in the digestive tract. This alteration moves food directly to the small intestine, causing increased production of the hormone called glucagon, which increases insulin and controls blood sugar better. Strict diabetic control can massively reduce your risk of heart attack, stroke, kidney failure, blindness, nerve damage and amputation of extremities. It has been found in these studies that bariatric surgery is much more effective than medications alone in managing diabetes for people who struggle with their weight.

Similarly, rapid weight loss decreases peripheral tissues’ resistance to insulin, decreasing the need for insulin. Many patients whose weight is not high enough for surgery would benefit from a medically supervised weight loss program. It is worth noting that even a loss of 5% to 10% of a person’s body weight will have a positive effect on health conditions related to obesity.

Introducing Tracey, who got married in her dream dress after coming to Turkey for a Gastric Bypass.

“I have fought with my weight all my life, basically since I left school. I have never been a big eater but what I did eat was rubbish, so I joined slimming world to try and help lose weight but it was very slow and as soon as you stop the weight creeps back on, then I decided to go to the NHS for help I went there for nearly 3 years I wasn’t big enough for a bypass, so I opted for the band.. but I had problems with my kidneys so they refused to give me the treatment and offered me a balloon instead.

The balloon was only in for 4 months and I did lose 2 stone but as soon as it was removed, the weight began to creep back on once again, I had been suffering with pressure on the brain for many years prior to this so I thought enough is enough and I decided to look into coming to Turkey for a gastric bypass in January of 2022, at the time I weighed 16st & going for the bypass ended up being the best decision of my life.

The Health Store Turkey changed my life and my health conditions are no longer a problem. The Health Store Turkey was brilliant from start to finish. The care was 100%!

Then in June of this year I finally got married and had lost nearly 6 stone in time for the wedding! I felt like an absolute princess on my wedding day for the first time in my life. It was amazing! just perfect. Ever since then the weight has just continued to drop off me. I currently weigh only 7st 6lbs which is absolutely life changing. It hasn’t been an easy journey as I still struggle sometimes with the eating and trying to get in all my protein and liquids, but I wouldn’t change it for the world!

I am now the healthiest I have ever been. I love myself and enjoy buying clothes for the first time ever! I have never looked back and it’s all thanks to The Health Store Turkey. If you’re ever on the fence about having the operation please go for it!  You won’t regret it & it will be the best decision of your life. You won’t look back, believe me.”

Many thanks, Tracey.

Fethiye is a port city, and district, on Turkey’s southwestern Turquoise Coast. It’s known for its natural harbour, blue waters and numerous amazing rock tombs including the 4th-century B.C. Tomb of Amyntas which is carved into a cliff overlooking the city. Near-shore islands are magnificent and very popular for day trips by boat. In the south of the city, the beach in Ölüdeniz is sheltered by a lagoon, and Butterfly Valley is an incredible nature reserve, which can be visited by boat, and hosts a number of little wooden cabins which you can stay in. At Downtown Fethiye, you can stroll along the rolling promenade by the sea which leads to a marina lined with cafes and restaurants serving delicious food and drinks, or shop for a bargain at the many shops. A large market offers a selection of Turkish glass lamps and Turkish delight, genuine leather products, silver and gold jewellery, as well as fantastic copies of designer clothes and bags. Other attractions include the fish market, the Turkish baths, an old Roman theatre, an open-air cinema, and the Yacht Classic Hotel, where Daniel Craig stayed during the filming of “Skyfall.” !

A tour of Fethiye is a wonderful way to immerse yourself in the many varying facets of Turkish culture and way of life. A vibrant and buzzing city which gives you a taste of true Turkish lifestyle.

We wish you a prosperous and joyful 2023 and we hope you enjoyed this newsletter update. Don’t forget to check back in for our next publication.
