Masseter Botox® in Turkey

Masseter Botox® is a non-surgical treatment where botulinum toxin is injected into the masseter muscles, the large muscles at the angle of your jaw that you use for chewing. When these muscles are overactive or enlarged, they can make your face appear wider or more square than you would like.

How it works:

The botulinum toxin relaxes the masseter muscle, causing it to gradually reduce in size over the following weeks. This creates a slimmer, more V-shaped jawline without any surgery, incisions, or downtime.

Masseter Botox® is used for two main purposes:

• Cosmetic jawline slimming, reducing the width of the lower face to create a more oval or heart-shaped facial profile. This is particularly popular among patients who feel their jaw appears too square or masculine.
• Functional relief, treating bruxism (teeth grinding), jaw clenching, and TMJ (temporomandibular joint) pain. Overactive masseter muscles can cause headaches, tooth damage, ear pain, and significant jaw discomfort.

The treatment uses the same botulinum toxin used in cosmetic Botox® for wrinkles, but it is injected deeper into the muscle tissue. Results typically become visible within 2-4 weeks, with the full slimming effect developing over 6-8 weeks. The effects last 4-6 months, and with repeated treatments, the muscle can reduce more permanently.

Masseter Botox® may be right for you if:

During your free consultation, your practitioner will assess your jaw muscles, discuss your goals, and confirm whether masseter botulinum toxin is the right approach. If the muscle enlargement is skeletal rather than muscular, they will advise you honestly.

Before Your Treatment

Your journey starts with a free consultation, online, by phone, or at one of our UK consultation days. You will discuss your concerns, whether cosmetic, functional, or both, and your practitioner will assess your suitability.

Once you decide to proceed, you will receive preparation guidance. There is very little to do beforehand, simply avoid blood-thinning medications (such as aspirin and ibuprofen) and alcohol for 24-48 hours before your appointment.

During Your Treatment

The treatment takes place in a licensed clinic, no hospital visit is needed. Your practitioner will ask you to clench your jaw so they can identify the masseter muscle and mark the injection points.

A topical numbing cream is applied to keep you comfortable, though many patients find the injections barely noticeable. Using a fine needle, botulinum toxin is injected into several points on each masseter muscle. The entire process takes approximately 15-20 minutes.

After Your Treatment

You can leave the clinic immediately and carry on with your day. There is no downtime. You may notice small injection marks that fade within a few hours.

You will be advised to avoid rubbing the treated area for 24 hours and to stay upright for 4 hours after treatment. Results begin to appear within 2-4 weeks as the muscle gradually relaxes and reduces in size.

Masseter Botox® requires no recovery time. This is one of its biggest advantages, you can have the treatment and continue with your plans the same day.

Day of treatment: You may have small, temporary marks at the injection sites. These are barely noticeable and fade within hours. Mild tenderness in the jaw area is normal.

First 24 hours: Avoid rubbing or massaging the treated area. Stay upright for at least 4 hours after treatment. Avoid strenuous exercise, saunas, and alcohol for 24 hours.

Week 1-2: You may notice the jaw area starting to feel slightly different, less tension, less clenching. The cosmetic slimming effect is not yet visible at this stage.

Week 2-4: The muscle begins to visibly reduce in size. If you were experiencing bruxism or jaw pain, you should notice a significant improvement by now.

Week 4-8: Full results are visible. Your jawline appears slimmer and more contoured. Jaw tension and grinding should be noticeably reduced or resolved.

Month 4-6: The effects gradually begin to wear off as the muscle regains activity. Most patients return for a follow-up treatment at this point. With repeated treatments (typically 2-3 sessions), the muscle can reduce more permanently, and you may need treatments less frequently over time.

Masseter Botox® is a well-established, low-risk treatment when performed by an experienced practitioner. Serious complications are extremely rare.

Common effects (mild and temporary):

• Small injection marks, fade within hours
• Mild tenderness or slight bruising at injection sites, resolves within 1-2 days
• A temporary feeling of weakness when chewing hard foods, resolves as you adjust

Less common considerations:

• Asymmetry, if one masseter is stronger than the other, slight unevenness may occur. This can be corrected at a follow-up appointment
• Temporary difficulty with very hard or chewy foods, uncommon and resolves within days
• Headache on the day of treatment, mild and short-lived

Rare:

• Allergic reaction to botulinum toxin, extremely rare. Your practitioner will review your medical history beforehand
• Migration of botulinum toxin to nearby muscles, avoided through precise injection technique by experienced practitioners
